Where is siargao

If you do a little preparation beforehand and plan out an itinerary you can easily work out how much money you will need to take. Here are some costs to give you an idea of how much you may need based on the mid-high range, not including accommodation :.

Some would say it is more expensive than other parts of the Philippines, but it depends on what it is being compared to. As it stands, Siargao offers excellent value for money.

We normally judge the price of a destination based on a bottle of local beer, a burger and fries meal, 1-hour massage and a single tank dive.

These will normally provide a good indication of what to expect for other items. The shopping was a little more expensive than you would have imagined but to be fair, the quality of clothing was pretty decent. My other half who has never bought clothing on a small island before spent far more time in the shops than I would have imagined!

The island is developing rapidly, but you should still be prepared for inconveniences like dirt roads and power cuts. WiFi is available and certainly better in higher-end resorts, however, do not expect any great deal of usage to take place. Basic Aqua shoes are sensible on some of the rocky coral beaches and in particular at Magpupungko Rock Pool. Siargao and the Philippines in general do not provide a French Style Service! Be prepared for a totally laid back vibe.

Occasionally, your drinks will be delivered 20 minutes after your main meal which arrived before your starter! If you can, I would highly recommend visiting both as they offer completely different experiences.

When you visit Coron, you will likely stay in Coron Town Proper, which is where all of the hotels and restaurants are located. From here you will catch a boat from the port every day for all of your excursions to the beaches, islands, lagoons and lakes. Accommodation options close to the port are limited to 3 star and below. As a result, facilities tend to be very basic and generally in need of modernisation.

However, new hotels and restaurants are popping up which will hopefully provide some diverse options when hunting for accommodation. Siargao IS the attraction itself. You could happily spend your whole time on the island without stepping a foot off it. But options are available should you wish to venture out to see local beauty spots. The fact that getting around on a moped is so much fun and relatively safe allows you to go out and get lost, finding places that are not on the map or on any website for that matter.

Siargao is the perfect definition of raw beauty waiting to be discovered, if you want to find it that is. One thing that really stood out for us was the commitment towards the environment. Divers would go out of their way to remove plastic bags wedged in between corals and the locals would pick up litter as they go about their daily business.

You expect a certain level of plastic pollution to wash up on beaches around islands that suffer with typhoons. What you do not expect is to see is absolutely no sight of a single plastic fork, bottle or abandoned shoe sticking out of the sea bed when the tide is out. Pretty impressive. There is something for everyone in Siargao which is why it attracts such a diverse range of tourists. If you want to party then there are plenty of options. They have a rota type system where one venue will host the biggest party each night of the week.

If you prefer live music or bands just have a stroll down General Luna Road and keep an ear out from the side streets. There is some great talent waiting to be explored and some of our most memorable nights have been listening to our favourite song requests whilst singing along throughout the night.

There are so many options to choose from if you prefer something a little quieter. Just take a walk and pick something that takes your fancy. Years ago sharks were hunted by local fisherman for their highly-priced fins.

Although this has now stopped, sharks no longer visit the area. The most likely danger posed is stepping on sea urchins. Depending on the time of year these can be quite rare, but even when present you can spot them easily through the crystal clear water.

With terrorism being the biggest threat to tourist safety in Mindanao, Siargao is an exception. The island is in the far northeastern tip of the area and safely away from any issues the country is currently facing. Flying directly to the island also limits any potential issues that could be faced by taking lengthy road or boat transfers.

It is actually one of the most well-known surfing spots in the entire Philippines, as the right-breaking reef creates a barrelling wave known for its thick, hollow tubes.

A surfing competition sponsored by the government of Surigao del Norte is held here every year. Cloud 9 is only recommended for advanced surfers, as it breaks on a very shallow reef. It is also best to come at mid to high tide, as low tide exposes most of the reef. Even if you are not a surfer or not quite up to the skill level it takes to tackle Cloud 9 , it is still highly recommended that you come and take a stroll along the boardwalk.

Extending far into the sea, the boardwalk leads to a three-story viewing platform where you can watch the surfers. It is also a wonderful place to take photographs of the ocean. The best time to come is around sunrise or sunset. Siargao Island is a relatively small island, which makes it easy to check out the different stretches of sand along its coast. Here are some spots that deserve a place on your itinerary. Just a minute drive east from General Luna , Doot Beach is an easy and very worthwhile trip from town.

The drive follows a dirt road lined with palm trees, which leads right down to the beach. The beach is dotted with palm trees, and there are many great spots to go swimming. It is best to come to Doot Beach at high tide. With a name like Secret Beach , this is a sandy strip you know you have to come and experience. It lies about a minute drive from General Luna , past Doot Beach and just before the town of Dapa.

The scenic drive will take you inland through the mountains and down to the coast again. From the main road, you will have to take a minute walk through a palm tree forest before emerging on the beautiful beach.

There are some right-hand breaks great for longboarding here, or you can simply relax in the sand. A one-hour drive from General Luna , Pacifico Beach is located on the north-eastern side of the island. It is probably the second-best Siargao Island surf spot after Cloud 9 , with fantastic reef breaks just a quick paddle away from shore and a choice of both right-hand and left-hand waves. If you are coming to surf, then mid to low tide is best.

The furthest beach from General Luna but definitely worth the hour and a half trip if you have the time, Alegria Beach is known for its quiet and tranquil environment. Once you arrive at the beach, you will be amazed by the picture-perfect postcard setting. The sea here is calm, gentle, and suitable for swimming, or you can take a barefoot stroll through the white sand while looking out over the crystal-clear water.

These natural pools are created from water left behind in a coastal rock formation when the ocean retreats at low tide. The water in the pools is bright blue and incredibly clear, making it a popular spot to take a swim and go snorkeling.

The water is also deep enough to allow for cliff jumping off the surrounding rock formations. Visiting the rock pool requires a small entrance fee of just 50 pesos. As this is a very popular tourist stop, you can expect some crowds, but the pools are large enough to comfortably accommodate many people. Another option is to take the ferry from Surigao.

The Crossing takes about three to four hours. There is also an overnight ferry from Cebu, for relatively small money. However, the sea conditions here can be quite violent, which is why you should consider well whether you really want to do the long crossing. If Naked Island is completely bare, Guyam island offers a lush clump of vegetation for tourists. This island covered in palm trees is small enough to walk around in just a few minutes.

There are few huts available on the beach so you can just chill out and enjoy your solitude. Daku Island is mostly the place where tourists eat lunch during the island-hopping tour. You can indulge yourself in a sumptuous meal that includes the freshest seafood and refreshing buko coconut juice. Your local Siargao guide will help you find the best cook on the island. You can ask locals to cook fresh seafood and enjoy it on a boodle fight!

And unlike the other two beaches mentioned, there are a lot more things to do in Daku Island from kayaking to fishing. Sugba Lagoon is a famous Siargao diving spot because of its great view and turquoise waters. Whatever the case is, Sugba Lagoon is a great place to be! Most travel bloggers who have been to Siargao has a picture or two of themselves in this famous Siargao tourist destination. Coconut Mountain View lets you see thousands of coconut trees from above.

Surfing is what most travelers come for in Siargao. In fact, some of the most prominent international surfing competitions in the world are held here. It is a color violet puto Filipino rice cake wrapped in banana leaves. This yummy snack is made from glutinous rice, brown sugar, roasted peanuts, calamansi juice, and coconut milk.

You can buy sayongsong at the local public markets around Siargao. When in Siargao, there is never a boring night! Siargao gives the best island nightlife experience ever! One of the best ways to do that is by joining a beach cleanup activity.
