Another great feature of Evernote is voice recordings. This can be useful for many different projects when audio would be better than text. Google Drive has the ability to allow several or many different people get together and collaborate on a specific project in real-time.

This is an extremely useful feature as a document can be edited by several different people simultaneously and each user can give their thoughts and input on each aspect of the project as it is developed. Important documents such as PowerPoint presentations and spreadsheets can also be edited in the cloud by anyone that has access to the Google Drive account, which can make it easier to keep up with company projects, bills or other important documents.

There is also the ability to integrate the Google ecosystem such as Gmail and Google Apps to keep everything stored in Google accessible from one area. So now you have the idea of why and how you should use each one of these highly popular and useful cloud services. Plus there is always that possibility of files getting damaged, deleted or lost in the cloud.

Between Evernote and Google Drive, the main advantage of Evernote for this purpose is its use of notebooks, which at least lets you keep notes for individual work projects or classes segmented. Evernote does have some drawing capabilities, too, but using them requires that you create a separate ink note. The inability to combine text and ink notes is a big disadvantage for this purpose.

For both tools, voice notes will come in handy for bad notetakers or those that wish to listen to the meeting or class rather than try and take notes.

Font sizes, standard font formatting bold, italics, underline, etc , bulleted lists, indenting and tables are also supported. Google Docs, for one, has much better spelling and grammar checking features. On top of that, Google Drive and Google Docs are great for collaboration. Choosing Evernote over Google Drive or vice versa will largely depend on precisely what sort of task you need to accomplish. Evernote and Google Drive both have free versions that should be enough for basic use.

If not, subscription costs are low enough that we have no problem calling either a bargain, especially given the productivity advantages offered. For those fans of both tools, there are even ways to integrate Evernote and Google Drive.

For a more basic approach, you can copy Google Doc links to Evernote. Doing so will automatically create a little box in Evernote telling you exactly what the link points to. I use both as well, but I work in a team and I was meditating to move everything to just one space. Evernote is wonderful for researchers, but Drive has the basics; space for collecting, sharing and quickly finding. Great article. Thanks for taking the time to do all the research. I did use Evernote exclusively for a number of years while keeping Google Drive in the background. However in the last two years I have found myself using Google Drive more and more especially because of the ease of Google Keep and being an Android user.

In fact I find myself not carting around my laptop as much because I can access anyting on Google drive through my Android device. The one feature I miss on Google Drive is the ability to put a password on a note where you can store a sensitive document like you can in Evernote. Thanks again for the wonderfully written article.
