During this crime-spree he is caught, with a group of accomplices, stealing electronics. He refuses to give his name to the police, and denies being a thief. The Bhutanese police officer retorts; "Tell that to the guy who owns these," smacking a cardboard box with electronics inside. This scene is played for laughs, as it is a Wayne Enterprises box, and Bruce is therefore the owner.
While it is never explicitly stated that this theft is what he is in prison for, it is heavily-implied. The police officers were Bhutanese, it is the only crime Bruce committed that he is shown to be caught while committing, and that is the last flashback scene in chronological order excepting brief flashes to his League of Shadows training, which occurs after his prison term. As for where the prison was, it is established in the DVD special features and the Batman Begins video game as being in Bhutan.
Here's a source on that:. As you'll note, the above source does not explicitly state it is the electronics theft that he is in prison for, nor do any others I've found, but it seems obvious from the sequence of events.

Bane was then treated by the prison doctor and heavily bandaged. Following Talia's escape from the prison, she located her former mercenary father, Ra's al Ghul , and he returned with the League of Shadows to exact revenge upon the prisoners who had killed the love of his life. In the process, Ra's and the league also saw to the treatment of Bane, but were unable to stop the continual pain he experienced. Bane is then recruited into the League of Shadows, wherein he is given a mask which supplies him with analgesic gas to stem the constant pain from the injury he received in The Pit.
After being excommunicated from the league, Bane bought the pit and used it to lock up and torture his enemies. He recounts the story of The Pit to Bruce before returning to Gotham. Bruce then spends the better part of five months in The Pit, learning about the legend of the only person a child to have ever escaped and training to become Batman once more.
After Bruce learns more about the child's past, he assumes the child who escaped from the prison to be Bane. Bane also enables Bruce to view the state of martial law he implements throughout Gotham City through a television screen outside his cell.
Batman Begins bucked the trend by spending a good chunk of its running time looking at Bruce's journey from idealistic and inexperienced young adult into a man worthy of the iconic cape and cowl. This includes time spent in a brutal prison environment, which proved hard but necessary. While not explicitly spelled out in the film, it does still seem pretty clear what landed Bruce Wayne in prison before Batman Begins.
After leaving Gotham City following his confrontation with Carmine Falcone, Bruce takes up a life of crime, with the intent of learning what makes criminals tick and what motivates them to do what they do. Bruce is arrested after being caught by police while in the act of stealing items, ironically pieces of technology owned by Wayne Enterprises.
Bruce refuses to identify himself, so him then being sent to prison seems plausible enough, even without the connection being hammered home. Sign In. Edit Batman Begins Jump to: Summaries 5 Synopsis 1. The synopsis below may give away important plot points. Getting Started Contributor Zone ».
